The popular Durban beachside business thanked its loyal customers for their support as it prepares to pack up its current premises and reveal a new location.
Durban’s beachfront is facing another change as popular watersports and beach entertainment business Xpression Durban prepares to leave its current premises.
The business announced the move to customers, saying its lease was coming to an end and that it would temporarily close while it packs up.
“To our incredible Xpressions Durban fam, we have big changes on the horizon. As the lease on our current shop space comes to an end, it’s time for us to pack up and make a move.”
Xpression Durban, based at Addington Beach, is known as a one-stop shop for beach activities, offering surfing and stand-up paddleboarding, as well as bicycle, pedal kart and other equipment rentals. It also sells surf and beach gear and provides lessons for people wanting to learn to surf or stand-up paddleboard.
The business has become part of Durban’s beachfront lifestyle, catering to locals, families and visitors looking to get out on the water or explore the promenade.
The announcement comes just days after another well-known Durban beachfront business, Surf Riders Café, was forced to vacate its South Beach premises.
Surf Riders Café had operated from its beachfront location near uShaka Marine World, becoming a familiar stop for diners visiting the promenade.
The eThekwini Municipality said Surf Riders’ original lease, awarded following a public bidding process in 2013, expired in 2019. The business then continued operating under a monthly lease.
The municipality said it had instructed its attorneys to recover outstanding rental charges and interest, with the amount allegedly running into millions of rands. The premises were subsequently advertised in November 2024 and awarded to another tenant.
