Police are investigating the murder of 67-year-old Fathma Bee Bee Khan, who was found dead at her Camperdown home, last Sunday.

Her family says she suffered severe injuries and is appealing for information.

Khan's body was discovered at her Bishop Road home by family members who became concerned when she they did not see her during the day.

Her brother, Ahmed Mukthar, 63, described Khan as a harmless woman who lived in the area for over 20 years.

“I don’t know how they could attack her in such a brutal manner that her face had to be covered at her funeral. Whoever attacked her disfigured her face. Our family were not able to see her for the last time.”

Mukthar said he last spoke to Khan on the Friday (September 25).

“I usually spent time at my sister’s home every day, and had my tea and meals with her. We lived just a few kilometers away from each other.

“On that morning, I told her I was going deep-sea fishing, and would return the next day. She raised her two hands (in a prayer pose) and told me to go and return safely. I never thought she would be unsafe. I came back on Saturday night, but it was quite late, and I was tired. I thought I would see her the next morning,” he said.

Mukthar said that at about 9am the next morning, his son received a panicked call from his daughter who lived on the same property as Khan.

“My daughter, son-in-law, and their children live in an outbuilding on my sister's property. But it is not close to the main house. When we arrived at the property, my daughter said it was unusual that my sister did not go outside to call for her like she usually did.
