A 28-year-old man of Katozi Village in Chieftainess Waitwika’s Chiefdom in Nakonde District has died under unclear circumstances at a liquor store where he used to work from.
Muchinga Province Police Commissioner, Lubinda Mayamba confirmed the incident in a press statement made to the media.
Mr Mayamba identified the deceased as Cletus Bwalya.
He said brief facts are that, the now deceased was employed by his elder brother, Chrispine Mulenga, owner and operator of a liquor store at Katozi Village.
He added that the deceased had been working at the said liquor store since 10th June, 2026 and had been sleeping there.
“The deceased used to sleep at the liquor Shop due to the fact that he usually knocked off late and feared being attacked while returning home,” he said
The Police Commissioner alleged that on 4th October, 2026 at around 17:00 hours, liquor store owner Chrispine Mulenga checked on the deceased at the liquor store and found him selling beer and appearing to be in good health, saying the deceased did not complain of any illness or discomfort.
Mr Mayamba disclosed that the incident occurred between 4th October, 2026 at around 17:00 hours and 5th October, 2026 at around 06:00 hours, at Katozi Village in Nakonde district.
However, on 5th October, 2026 at around 06:00 hours, Chrispine Mulenga went to the liquor store to conduct a stock taking exercise with his younger brother, the now deceased, upon arrival, he found the door to the liquor store widely open, with music still playing inside.
Mr Mayamba said upon checking the premises, he found his younger brother lying motionless on the floor and subsequently discovered that he was dead.
